Friday, February 27, 2009.  I will be away for a week, but before I left, wanted everyone to know that we are having a fabulous GEMSTONE TRUNK SHOW as soon as I get back.  Mark your calendars for March 16th because you'll want to come early for this one!  Stephen, Bailie and Tina are holding down the fort.  Stop in and keep them company so they won't miss me : )

Friday, January 9, 2009  Can you believe it?  Another year down, inventory is over.  Hope all your holiday celebrations were  memorable and happy.  I wasn't ready for them! My New Years Resolution is to prepare earlier for all you guys who came in September and October asking for Christmas beads.  I have been swamped with calls this last two weeks for people looking for classes.  I have e-mails in to all my teachers to schedule for me.  I'll update the website as I can.  I am happy that so many people share my passion.  I will try to fill up the schedule so that you all have something to do  on the cold winter nights that are sure to be coming up. Come in, drink some tea, show us what you're working on, get help with your problem pieces, relax at lunch time.  I have cleaned up the work table.  There are now 4 spaces that I vow to keep cleared for those who just want to sit and work!  Happy New Year!

Friday, September 5, 2008.   Labor Day is past, time to put away the white.  I know that rule doesn't apply anymore, still, when I put on my white shirt this morning, I heard my mother whispering in my ear, and quickly took it off.  Old dogs, new tricks....  Sarah is back at school and so is Bailie, who started nursing classes this fall - but she is still working her Saturday hours at the store, for now.

Tomorrow Stephen and I will be out at the mall in the Macy's wing with a table.  Never done that before, but we are giving it a try.  He will be demonstrating some of his metal work on other people's discarded metal.  The theme of the mall show is "Going Green" so we are taking out some recycled items and ideas.  Come visit.

New things coming in all the time.  I ordered new colors of seed beads a couple days ago, I expect them the beginning of next week.  New stones will be arriving in a week, got a bunch of pearls last week, all wire is restocked...  Ammonites are my new favorite thing and I have lots! I have one in my secret stash that I plan to try some bead embroidery on, so I have Lacy's Stiff Stuff coming next week too.  I haven't re-ordered it for a while, not a lot of interest, but you are all going to want it when you see my ammonite - if I finish it (you who know me understand that one)!  I am starting to think fall, getting autumn colors and even Christmas items out, even though it's still hot and still feels like summer.

The class schedule is filling out too.  You asked for lampwork?  Stephen scheduled 2 classes.  Jen and Dana are back on the schedule, as is Lynne with her Soldered Pendants.  We also have Rio coming back for another great PMC class.  We have a new teacher, Terry Kovalcik who I have heard nothing but good things about and am looking forward to meeting.  Our other great teacher, Fred Woell, is unable to make it this fall, but we hope to have him back again soon. Lots to be happy about!

Saturday, July 12, 2008  This summer is going by sooo fast!  If you haven't been to the store yet, I have good summer help now so I can get organized (hopefully).  So far, not so good : )   Time is ticking away and I'm not organized yet!  Sarah has taken my store hours while she is home from college, Bailie is working, as is Stephen.  I am in and out all the time, but trying to do computer work and cleaning behind the scenes.  One more month and things will go back to normal (or abnormal). Wish I could figure out this internet thing so I could get class pictures up, but so far, no luck. I will send them in email to anyone who requests them from labeadoh@aol.com.  I got a good camera a couple months ago, might as well use it!  Off to work....

Monday, June 4, 2008.  Just back from the Bead and Button Show. If you haven't been yet, make plans to go next year.  It gets you pumped up and inspired.  Everyone wears major bling and there are so many creative people, wonderful classes and fun things to look at. I learned how to prong set a stone.  I even got a certificate showing I passed the class.  Now I have a new wish list for classroom tools.   I brought back some neat ceramics, some great glass, including "to die for" brown metallic size 13 charlottes, and am having other stuff shipped back - I am getting more metals (really cool stuff), swarovski pearls, and that satin cording that lots of you have been asking about.

Sarah is home for the summer, working with me, Stephen and Bailie (who just graduated from high school 2 days ago - hooray!),  and has some great new class and project ideas.  It's great to have her. I am even starting to get a little organized. believe it or not.

Thursday, April 24th 2008. Wow, is it really April?  Where has the time gone?  New classes are starting up - check out Jen's Viking knit class, you will be able to make your own clasps from wire after you finish it - and a woven chain and your own headpins.   Stephen continues his popular metals classes the Sunday after Mother's Day. Beth has 2 great wire classes on the schedule too. You should see the new supply of fire polished beads in gorgeous colors that I am frantically trying to get out on the shelves!  Some of you may know that I got way too carried away with my bead guy 2 weeks ago.  I have no place to put them all. I love playing with beads.....

March 5, 2008  Yeah, Jason got the job!  He starts in 2 weeks and has already moved down to Orlando.  Sarah is already planning a spring break trip!  All is good at home and at the store.  Fred had a great class of PMC, as usual.  We had 12 students certified.  They made some gorgeous pieces.  One girl asked after the first day when he'd be back - and she still had 2 days to go!  Well, I listened.  I am fairly sure he is returning on Columbus Day and will add a workshop on Monday for all of us who already took his certification class.  He is checking his schedule and will get back to me on that one.  I'll let you know when I find out something.

Do you have spring fever yet?  There is snow on the ground, but I am still remembering the 65 degrees we had on Sunday.  Time for some spring cleaning - oh no!  Not the c---- word. This is my way of procrastinating...updating the website.  Do you like it?

Things to look forward to:  Beth has some great wire working classes and I love Jen's crystals.  She got published in case you all missed that!  Find Jen's Crystal Crown bracelet (which they re-named) on page 38 of Bead and Button.  I am so proud of her and so thankful that she is sharing her love of beads with us. We got the classroom cleaned up for a couple weeks between Stephen's metals classes. Soon he will be making messes again as his classes start up the week after Easter.  I am soooo jealous, you guys have too much fun in there. He has added a Lampwork class too for the first time.  Should be interesting. I am in the middle of Bill's dichroic glass class and having a blast.  So much to play with, so little time.

February 7, 2008   Lots of neat classes going on to keep you busy when you don't want to be outside - please check the class page, we're getting into all kinds of new things.  So much activity this week.  We have a new huge shipment of Thai silver that came in this week and just a taste of Kazuri Beads  - but enough to convince me that I need more......., some new tools too.  Coming up next week - seed beads and crystal.    Happy early Valentine's Day to all of you - since I may not get another update  done for a couple weeks.  My son has 2 job interviews in Florida this week.  Hope he gets one of them.  Nice place for me to vacation? Cross your fingers.

December 30, 2007.  POP SALE.   Remember when you were in high school and you went into class and your teacher told you to take out your pencils for a pop quiz?  Well today at La Bead, Oh!  we are having a pop sale.  I was at work yesterday, looking at all I had to count for inventory on Tuesday and went in to panic mode.  Please come buy it all so I don't have to count it. Today everything you buy is 15% off retail prices. Tomorrow,  Monday the discount will be 20% off.

The next 3 days, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be closed for inventory.  We will be in the store, so if you have a bead emergency, come on by (sale price will not apply), but otherwise, please let us get the job done and over with.

December 18, 2007.  Well, one down, one to go!  My son graduated from college last weekend!!!!  Talk about feeling old....  I am a proud mama.  My thanks to Stephen and Bailey for holding down the fort and letting me get to Carbondale and back without having to worry about what was going on up here.  I am lucky to have good people around me.   There are still some Christmas earring kits and plenty of green and red beads in the store.   I got a fabulous shipment of stones  yesterday.  It will be the last of the year.  That's not saying much since the new year starts in a short 2 weeks.  I scheduled an Open Bead Night early in January - on the 7th.  Come Bead with us...And don't forget to put the Christmas party on your schedule!

December 6, 2007 (yes, it's still 2007, but not for long.....)  Where has this year gone?  I can't believe it.  The holiday season is upon us.  Carols are on the radio, in the stores, on the telephone while you wait to talk to a real person, in the elevators and everywhere else you turn. They used to bother me, but now the songs are so familiar, I actually know the words, and I will be sorry to see them go in a few short weeks.  We are busy planning our Christmas party at the store, December 22nd. We will have a potluck dinner and a white elephant gift exchange, so get out your Conehead ties, your bobblehead Backstreet Boys, or whatever else you may come up with and come have some fun.  We still have a couple openings in our December classes if you are looking for inspirations for gifts.  Check out the class schedule.  I am off work today - I love you Stephen for giving me a much needed break!

October 16, 2007.  Wow, it's been 2 weeks.  Lots happened in 2 weeks.   First, thank you to Fred Woell and his WONDERFUL PMC classes.  The Rio Grande Certification class he taught was a success. Everyone loved it as I knew they would (since I took it last January).  I took the additional Hollow Beads Class Fred taught on Monday.  8 of the 9 of us who took that class were returning students of his - a tribute to his great teaching methods.  Ask to see what I made when you come in, I am proud to show my beads off. My next new and great venture is in lapidary.  I just bought 3 new (used, but new for me) pieces of equipment and lots of rock that I am oh so excited about!  Give me 6 months to learn and play with them and then I will share with all of you.  The store is taking such great twists and turns that I am pretty psyched right now.  It's really fun to see all the noise coming from the classroom.  We have fused glass classes, metalsmithing / cold connections, seed bead weaving, wire twisting, bead stringing and polymer clay all going now, and hope to set up a lampwork class very soon.  New arrivals this week and last:  lots of gemstones, some czech glass, quality plated toggles and charms, crystals, tools and silver.

October 2, 2007  Hi all.  This blog thing is kinda fun.  Fred's PMC Certification class is in 3 days.  He is staying over on Monday, October 8  for a Hollow Beads class that is going to be great, this is your chance to learn some new and exciting PMC techniques!  Stephen's Metal Madness class last weekend was so popular we had to add two more.  I was jealous of all the activity and laughter coming from the classroom. Check the schedule for dates.  Lucite came in on Monday.  Silver castings, new tools, sterling findings, tons of seedbeads, all came in this week.  New stones will be here on Friday.  Another thing not to miss: the LOESS gem and mineral show at the fairgrounds this weekend.

September 29, 2007  Those of you who have been waiting for Jen to teach again are in luck.  She scheduled a gorgeous earring project for us.  Check the schedule on the class page.  Lots of seed beads arrived yesterday.  Give me a few days to label them and get them out - its going to take that. - I couldn't even carry the box, had to get Patrick to do it. I am working today, Bailee is off on a crusade and Stephen is teaching his class this afternoon.

September  27, 2007   Yeah!!!!! I finally got this website stuff half way figured out!  The  classes page has been updated. Time to get out a glass of champagne and celebrate.......Fred Woell will be here for the Rio Grande PMC Certification class next week.  If you haven't signed up yet, better get on it!  Check out www.riorewards.com for the class description and particulars.  New castings arrived at the store today, we have lots of fun little charms, connectors and toggles to play with.
